In Memory of Billy
Welcome to Billy's Blog
On November 24, 2006, my brother, Billy, lost his long and hard-fought battle with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. That battle lasted for nearly 12 years before he could no longer fight. He lived with the damage that the disease and the medications both caused his body all the while making the rest of us learn to love the small joys in life and laugh at nearly everything. Billy was unconditional love and I honestly haven't encountered that anywhere else in my life so far. This blog is here for a few reasons. I want to share Billy's story with the world so that others may know they aren't alone in their own fight with SLE or any of its many forms. I also want to help raise awareness of this disease so that other families won't have to go through the pain and suffering that ours has endured. As the days and years progress, I will be posting information about SLE and other forms of Lupus, advancements in research and development of treatments as well as news about the fundraiser/benefit that my family and I are planning to do to both honor the memory of Billy and to raise awareness in our own community.
