Billy Brown Memorial Wrestling Show

Around the sixth month anniversary of Billy's passing, my family and I decided that we had to do something to make a difference in the lives of those who have been touched by Lupus in any way, shape or form. Since one of Billy's favorite things used to be going and seeing our youngest brother wrestle, we all agreed that we should put on a memorial show for Billy. Our goal for the show is two-fold. One, we would like to honor Billy's memory and keep the unconditional love and acceptance he showed to others alive. Secondly, we want to raise awareness about Lupus within our own community. I can't begin to tell you how many times that I have talked to someone shortly before or after Billy's passing and they mentioned that they know someone who's recently been diagnosed with Lupus or has had the disease for years. In our hometown, there isn't a lot of places that someone can go to for information or support after receiving a diagnosis of Lupus. Therefore, my family and I are working together to provide something for those that need it.

Here it is just little more than a month until the show! We've gotten a majority of the things done that we had on our "to-do" lists. My brother, Andy, has really gone the extra mile in making sure all the arrangements for the wrestling, the line-up for the wrestlers, and concessions were all taken care of. All that's really left to do is promotion, promotion, promotion! Of course, I'm going to contact everyone on my address books as well as use the popular websites such as Myspace and Livejournal to get the word out. I have begun to make press releases or promo pages to send to the local newspapers, radio stations, and television community calendar sections. My mom and dad have talked about taking out a full page ad in the local newspaper to advertise the show. I don't know for sure if that's what they are going to do, but if they do, yay! It would definitely help. The newspaper was also looking for people, actually women, who have been living with or recently diagnosed with lupus. I called the number to speak with the reporter but she hasn't gotten back to me as of yet. I know that it's not in the parameters of what she's looking for but my mother and I are women looking to raise awareness of Lupus in our community. Lol, I know it's a little bit of a stretch so I'll just have to wait and see if she's interested or not. We are still selling bracelets and will be getting t-shirts made for the memorial show. As soon as I get a clear picture, I will post it. You can still order bracelets by emailing me at pandorasgift@iwon.com as well leaving a comment below. Thanks to all those who have purchased bracelets already!

As of 7/4/07, my family and I are still working hard to make this memorial show happen. We, along with many friends who knew Billy, have been selling bracelets to get the money together to put on the show. We are also going to be making up shirts celebrating the event and those who are going to be working the show. Thanks to the many friends who are wrestlers that are going to be doing the show. We've gotten the card, or line-up of the matches, done as well as gotten the lighting and sound system arranged to be taken care of. The only that we are waiting on at this point is a confirmation of the building as well as gathering enough to cover the cost of concessions. Therefore we're still selling bracelets. They're going for $2 a piece. Please contact me at the email address above if you're interested in purchasing them. Here's what they look like.

We need all the help we can get. Not only will a portion of the proceeds of the bracelets be used to honor Billy's memory, but we're donating to both the Lupus Foundation of America, Indiana Chapter and the Lupus Research Institute as well. If we can make a difference in just one person's life, it's all worth it.

Thanks a bunch,
Kim
